Overview

The S70TY is a 3.1.1-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar from LG's 2024 lineup, designed to match LG QNED TVs. It comes with a wireless subwoofer, a remote, batteries, an HDMI cable and a wall-mount bracket. The black soundbar is 950 mm wide, 63 mm high and 115 mm deep. LG says it has a center up-firing speaker, angled to line up with the TV screen.

LG's dedicated bracket lets you place the soundbar directly beneath a QNED TV or mount it on the wall at different heights. LG's SPT8-S wireless rear speakers can be added later.

The soundbar has one HDMI input, an HDMI eARC connection to the TV, an optical input, a USB port for music files and Bluetooth. It has no Wi-Fi. You can control it from the remote, the buttons on the bar, the LG ThinQ app for iOS and Android, or an LG TV remote over SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC).

What the specs mean

• 3.1.1 speaker setup: three main channels, one subwoofer channel and one height channel.
• HDMI eARC: the enhanced Audio Return Channel carries the TV's sound to the soundbar over one HDMI cable, including high-bitrate formats such as Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos.
• Audio formats: Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS Digital Surround and LPCM. LG lists DTS:X and DTS-HD as not supported.
• HDMI passthrough (4K120, HDR10, Dolby Vision, VRR, ALLM, HDCP 2.3): a console or player plugs into the HDMI input and the soundbar passes the picture through to the TV. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) lets a console change the refresh rate frame by frame, and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) switches the TV to its low-latency mode automatically.
• Expandable: LG lists the SPT8-S rear speaker kit as compatible.
• Clear Voice and Night Time: Clear Voice makes voices clearer. Night Time lowers the overall volume but raises soft sounds.
• LG TV features: WOW Orchestra plays sound through the LG TV and the soundbar at the same time (HDMI connection only). WOW Interface and TV Sound Mode Share are also listed.
