YSP-2700

Overview

The YSP-2700 is a Yamaha MusicCast sound bar from 2016 with a wireless subwoofer. The bar is 944 mm wide, 51 mm high and 154 mm deep and comes in black. It can be wall-mounted; Yamaha lists the SPM-K20 wall mounting bracket as an optional accessory. Yamaha lists a weight of 8.7 lbs (about 3.9 kg) for the bar and 20 lbs (about 9.1 kg) for the subwoofer, and lists the product as discontinued.

The bar uses Yamaha's Digital Sound Projector technology with sixteen 1-1/8-inch beam drivers, and the subwoofer has a 5-1/2-inch cone woofer. Total output power is 107 W (2 W x 16 beam drivers plus 75 W for the subwoofer).

The bar has three HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with ARC to the TV, plus optical, coaxial and analog inputs, a subwoofer output, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Through MusicCast it streams Pandora, Napster, TIDAL, Deezer, Spotify and SiriusXM Internet Radio, plus internet radio, DLNA media servers and AirPlay, and it can play music in other MusicCast rooms. Yamaha lists voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant devices, CINEMA DSP sound programs and an on-screen display.

You control the bar with the buttons on the unit, the included remote, or the app for iOS and Android. The box contains the subwoofer, the remote with batteries, an optical cable, a calibration microphone, stands and the manuals.

What the specs mean

• 7.1 speaker setup: seven main channels plus a subwoofer channel. There are no rear speakers; Yamaha says the bar forms beams of sound and reflects them off the room's walls, so the surround channels come from the sides and rear.
• HDMI ARC, not eARC: the Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the soundbar over the HDMI cable. HDMI.org describes eARC as the newer version that adds high-bitrate formats such as Dolby TrueHD; the YSP-2700 lists HDMI ARC.
• Audio formats: Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II and IIx, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24 and DTS Neo:6.
• HDMI passthrough (4K60 and HDR10): sources on the three HDMI inputs pass their picture on to the TV in up to 4K at 50/60 Hz with HDR10. Yamaha lists HDCP 2.3.
• Room correction (IntelliBeam): IntelliBeam uses the included microphone to measure the room, then sets the beam angles and the level and frequency response of each beam.
• Not expandable: the wireless subwoofer is included, and there are no add-on surround speakers for the YSP-2700.
