Dione

Overview

Dione is a Devialet soundbar released in 2022 in Matte Black. It is 1200 mm wide, 77 mm high (88 mm with the sphere) and 165 mm deep, weighs 12 kg and can lie on furniture or be wall-mounted. Devialet says the central sphere, which it calls the ORB and uses as the centre channel, adapts to either position.

Devialet lists 17 drivers, nine full-range aluminium drivers and eight aluminium long-throw subwoofers, with 950 W RMS of total amplification power. Devialet designed it as an all-in-one bar and says no external subwoofer or satellite speakers are needed.

The TV connects over HDMI eARC (ARC also works), with an optical input as an alternative. Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth 5.0 connect it for streaming, with AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and UPnP. The box includes an HDMI cable, an optical cable, the power cable and documentation; Devialet says the wall-mounting guide is also in the box.

You set it up and control it with the Devialet app for iOS and Android, the TV remote over HDMI CEC, or the Devialet Remote. Devialet lists Movie, Spatial, Voice and Music listening modes. It has no built-in voice assistant.

What the specs mean

• 5.1.2 speaker setup: five main channels, one subwoofer channel and two height channels, all from the one bar. Devialet's SPACE processing upscales mono and stereo sources to 5.1.2.
• HDMI eARC: the enhanced Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the soundbar over one HDMI cable, including high-bitrate formats such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos and uncompressed multichannel audio. Dione also works with older ARC TVs.
• No HDMI passthrough: Dione has no HDMI input, so a console or streaming box connects to the TV, and the TV sends the sound on over HDMI eARC.
• Audio formats: Dolby Atmos. Devialet says Dione does not natively decode DTS:X; DTS multichannel audio is converted to PCM and played through the SPACE modes.
• Room correction: Dione's four calibration microphones scan the room from the Devialet app to build an acoustic model of the space.
• Expandability: none; Devialet designed Dione to be used without a subwoofer or satellite speakers, and none are listed as add-ons. With AirPlay 2 it can join a multiroom setup with Devialet Phantom speakers.
