Overview

Shockwafe Wireless is the 11.2.6 soundbar system Nakamichi announced in January 2025. It is a complete surround system: a soundbar 1371.6 mm wide, 114.3 mm high and 228.6 mm deep (about 14.7 kg), two wireless 10-inch subwoofers and two wireless surround speakers. The soundbar can be wall-mounted; Nakamichi sells a soundbar wall mount and surround speaker wall mounts as accessories.

Nakamichi lists 31 Punktkilde drivers. The soundbar has eight 2.75-inch full-range drivers, two 3-inch centre drivers, four 3-inch up-firing drivers and five 1-inch tweeters. Each subwoofer has a 10-inch driver, and each surround speaker has two 3-inch full-range drivers, two 1-inch tweeters and one 3-inch up-firing driver. Peak power is 2300 W in total: 1000 W for the soundbar, 450 W per subwoofer and 200 W per surround speaker. Nakamichi rates the loudness at up to 120 dB.

The soundbar has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, an HDMI eARC output to the TV, an optical input, a 3.5 mm aux input, a USB port (firmware updates only), Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2. The box contains the subwoofers and surround speakers with their power cables, the remote with batteries, an HDMI 2.1 cable, and the soundbar power cable and power adapter.

The system is controlled with the backlit 43-key remote, the buttons on the soundbar, the TV remote over HDMI-CEC, or a smartphone app for iOS and Android, which also gives access to room calibration settings. Shockwafe Wireless has no microphone. Sound modes include Movie, Music, Game, News, Sports, Night and DSP Off, and Adaptive Height Dispersion (AHD) has four height modes: Ultra, Wide, Focal and Off.

What the specs mean

  • 11.2.6 speaker setup: eleven main channels, two subwoofer channels and six height channels. The six height channels come from real up-firing drivers: four in the soundbar and one in each surround speaker. Nakamichi describes the surrounds as bipolar speakers that recreate six surround channels from two cabinets.
  • Wireless subwoofers and surrounds: the subwoofers and surround speakers connect to the soundbar without audio cables, but each one still needs mains power.
  • HDMI eARC: the enhanced Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the soundbar over one HDMI cable. Nakamichi's manual lists multichannel PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X from the TV as eARC-only; with plain ARC the TV can send Dolby Digital, DTS, AAC and stereo PCM.
  • Audio formats: Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby MAT, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS Digital Surround and multichannel PCM. Dolby Surround, DTS Neural:X and All Channel Stereo upmix content with fewer channels to all the speakers.
  • HDMI passthrough: the two HDMI 2.1 inputs pass video to the TV at up to 4K120 with VRR and ALLM, or 8K60, with HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HDCP 2.3.
  • Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2: the built-in Wi-Fi carries AirPlay 2 streaming from Apple devices and over-the-air firmware updates.
  • No expansion: every speaker the system supports is in the box, so there are no optional add-on speakers.

Overall value
A rough features-for-the-price score, compared with every soundbar listed. Bars gain points for things like Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi and room tuning, and lose points without them. Dolby Atmos with up-firing speakers earns more than virtual Atmos. Cheaper bars lose fewer points, or none, for missing premium extras (Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC, up-firing speakers). 100 is the best deal listed. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds.

Price-band value
Like Overall value, but each soundbar is compared only with soundbars in its own price band: up to $300, $300–500, $500–800, $800–1,200 or over $1,200. 100 is the best deal in that band. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds.
