Overview
The S65Q is the entry model of LG's 2022 soundbar lineup. It is a 3.1 system: a wireless subwoofer, a remote, batteries, an optical cable and a wall-mount bracket come in the box. The black soundbar is 1000 mm wide, 63 mm high and 105 mm deep and can be wall-mounted.
LG rates the system at 420 W. It has no up-firing speakers; LG lists DTS Virtual:X processing instead. LG's optional SPQ8 rear speaker kit is listed for the S90QY and S80QY, not for the S65Q.
The soundbar has one HDMI input, an HDMI ARC connection to the TV, an optical input, USB and Bluetooth. It has no Wi-Fi, so there is no AirPlay, Chromecast or voice assistant support; music from a phone plays over Bluetooth. You can control it from the remote, the buttons on the bar, LG's smartphone app for iOS and Android, or the TV remote.
What the specs mean
- 3.1 speaker setup: three front channels (left, center, right) and one subwoofer channel from the included wireless subwoofer, with no height channels.
- HDMI ARC, not eARC: the Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the soundbar over the HDMI cable. The newer eARC adds high-bitrate formats such as Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos and uncompressed multichannel audio; the S65Q supports neither eARC nor Dolby Atmos.
- Audio formats: Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround, DTS Virtual:X and LPCM.
- HDMI input: a player or streaming box can plug into the soundbar, which passes the picture on to the TV. LG does not list 4K, HDR or gaming passthrough features for the S65Q.

|---|---|---|---|
| Overall value A rough features-for-the-price score, compared with every soundbar listed. Bars gain points for things like Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi and room tuning, and lose points without them. Dolby Atmos with up-firing speakers earns more than virtual Atmos. Cheaper bars lose fewer points, or none, for missing premium extras (Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC, up-firing speakers). 100 is the best deal listed. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds. | 12 | 56 | 17 |
| Price-band value Like Overall value, but each soundbar is compared only with soundbars in its own price band: up to $300, $300–500, $500–800, $800–1,200 or over $1,200. 100 is the best deal in that band. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds. | 12$300–500 | 57$300–500 | 18$300–500 |
