Q60T

Overview

The HW-Q60T is a 2020 Q-Series soundbar from Samsung. The bar is 980 mm wide, 58 mm high and 105 mm deep, comes in black, and can be wall-mounted with the wall mount kit in the box.

It is a 5.1 system with a wireless subwoofer in the box. Samsung lists nine speakers, a 6.5-inch subwoofer driver and a total power of 360 W. Samsung's Acoustic Beam technology, according to Samsung, mixes and delivers sound so that it appears to come from where the action is on screen.

The TV connects over HDMI ARC (an HDMI cable is in the box) or optical. The bar also has an HDMI input, Bluetooth and a USB port. The box also contains the remote control with batteries, a wall mount template, the power adapter and cable, and the manuals.

Samsung lists the sound modes Surround Sound Expansion, Game Pro, Standard, Adaptive and DTS Virtual:X. Samsung says Adaptive Sound analyzes the sound signal and adjusts the sound for each scene. With a compatible Samsung QLED TV, Q-Symphony plays the TV speakers together with the soundbar, and Samsung's OneRemote controls power, volume and sound effects of the soundbar from the TV remote.

What the specs mean

• 5.1 speaker setup: five main channels plus a subwoofer channel. The ".1" is the wireless subwoofer in the box. The bar has no height channels.
• HDMI ARC: the Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the soundbar over the HDMI cable; Samsung lists Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) for control.
• HDMI passthrough (4K60, HDR10 and HDR10+): a streaming box or console connects to the soundbar's HDMI input, and the soundbar passes the picture on to the TV in up to 4K at 60 Hz with HDR10 or HDR10+.
• Audio formats: Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround and LPCM. There is no Dolby Atmos or DTS:X decoding.
• DTS Virtual:X: DTS describes it as virtual surround with height and surround effects from as few as two speakers, without a multi-speaker setup.
• Wireless surrounds: the HW-Q60T works with the Samsung SWA-8500S wireless rear speaker kit.
