HT-MT300

Overview

HT-MT300 is a compact 2.1-channel Sony soundbar from 2017. It is 500 mm wide, 54 mm high and 103 mm deep, comes in black or white and can be wall-mounted. Sony lists a weight of 3.09 lb (about 1.4 kg) for the bar.

A wireless subwoofer comes in the box. Sony lists it at 3.74 x 15.08 x 14.37 inches (about 95 x 383 x 365 mm) and 10.80 lb (about 4.9 kg).

The box also contains an optical cable, a power adapter, a power cable, foot pads, batteries and booklets. The TV connects to the optical input. There is also an analog input, a USB port, and Bluetooth with NFC for one-touch pairing of a phone. There is no Wi-Fi, so there is no network streaming or voice assistant; you control it with the buttons on the bar or the remote.

Sony lists the sound modes ClearAudio+, Movie and Music, plus a Voice Up setting for dialogue.

What the specs mean

• 2.1 speaker setup: two main channels (left and right) and one subwoofer channel, with no centre or height channels.
• No HDMI (no ARC or eARC): the HT-MT300 has no HDMI port, so it does not use the HDMI Audio Return Channel. The TV sends its sound over the optical cable instead.
• No HDMI passthrough: with no HDMI input, consoles and players connect to the TV, and the TV passes their sound to the bar over optical.
• Audio formats: Dolby Digital and LPCM 2ch.
• Expandability: the wireless subwoofer is included, and no optional rear speakers or extra subwoofer are listed for the HT-MT300.
