Q85H

Overview

The Q85H is the 7.1.4 channel system at the top of TCL's 2024 Q Class soundbar range. The bar is 41.5 inches (1054 mm) wide; TCL's spec table lists its size as 41.50 x 4.86 x 2.68 inches, W x H x D.

TCL lists up to 860 W of total power from 15 speakers. The bar has RAY·DANZ acoustic reflectors, built-in tweeters, a built-in centre channel and up-firing speakers; the two wireless surround speakers have forward and up-firing speakers of their own, and the wireless subwoofer has a 6.5 inch driver and Bass Boost. TCL recommends keeping the surround speakers within 10 feet of the bar. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and adds DTS Virtual:X. The sound modes are Standard, Movie, Music, Voice, Game and Sports, and the remote adds Voice Enhance, Night Mode, Surround Enhance, a surround speaker volume and the AI Sonic-Adaptation positions.

The connections are HDMI eARC, an HDMI input, optical, USB (MP3, WMA, WAV and FLAC), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Over Wi-Fi the bar works as an AirPlay speaker, set up from an iPhone or iPad. The TCL Home app can control the bar, update its firmware and run AI Sonic-Adaptation. TCL lists it as TCL TV Ready and Roku TV Ready, and with some TCL TVs it supports TCL Tutti Choral, an "Internal Speaker+Sound Bar" audio output on the TV. The box contains the subwoofer, the two satellite speakers, four power cords, an HDMI cable, the remote, a wall mount kit for the bar, a wall mount template and the printed leaflets.

What the specs mean

• 7.1.4 speaker setup: seven main channels, a subwoofer channel (".1") and four height channels (".4") from the up-firing speakers in the bar and the surrounds.
• Wireless surrounds and subwoofer: the satellites and subwoofer pair with the bar automatically and only need a power socket each.
• HDMI eARC and HDMI in: the TV sends its sound to the bar over eARC, and a player or console can connect to the bar's HDMI input. TCL does not state the maximum video format for the passthrough.
• AI Sonic-Adaptation: TCL's room calibration. The TCL Home app measures test signals with the phone's microphone at your seat and optimizes speaker distance, level and frequency response.
