Overview
The S40T is a 2.1-channel soundbar. It comes with a wireless subwoofer, a remote, batteries and an optical cable. The soundbar, in Mirror Black, is 720 mm wide, 63 mm high and 87 mm deep.
Connections are an HDMI ARC port to the TV, an optical input, a USB port for music files and Bluetooth. There is no HDMI input and no Wi-Fi. You can control it from the remote, the buttons on the bar, the LG ThinQ app for iOS and Android, or an LG TV remote over SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC).
What the specs mean
- 2.1 speaker setup: two main channels (left and right) and one subwoofer channel.
- HDMI ARC: the Audio Return Channel carries the TV's sound to the soundbar over one HDMI cable. There is no HDMI input, so there is no video passthrough.
- Audio formats: Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround and LPCM.
- Sound modes: AI Sound Pro, Cinema, Game and Standard. Night Time lowers the overall volume but raises soft sounds.
- LG TV features: WOW Orchestra plays sound through the LG TV and the soundbar at the same time (HDMI connection only). WOW Interface and TV Sound Mode Share are also listed.

|---|---|---|---|
| Overall value A rough features-for-the-price score, compared with every soundbar listed. Bars gain points for things like Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi and room tuning, and lose points without them. Dolby Atmos with up-firing speakers earns more than virtual Atmos. Cheaper bars lose fewer points, or none, for missing premium extras (Dolby Atmos, HDMI eARC, up-firing speakers). 100 is the best deal listed. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds. | 25 | 27 | 27 |
| Price-band value Like Overall value, but each soundbar is compared only with soundbars in its own price band: up to $300, $300–500, $500–800, $800–1,200 or over $1,200. 100 is the best deal in that band. Based on specs only, not on how it sounds. | 33up to $300 | 37up to $300 | 37up to $300 |
