Overview

DRAGON 11.1.6 is the DRAGON configuration with one 12-inch subwoofer. Its official store page first appears in the web archive in February 2026. It is a complete surround system: a 58-inch stainless steel main unit 1475.7 mm wide, 111.8 mm high and 195.6 mm deep (about 14.6 kg), one wireless 12-inch subwoofer (about 36 kg) and two wireless Omni-Motion Reference Surrounds. The main unit can be wall-mounted with Nakamichi's DRAGON main unit wall mount, sold separately.

The main unit has ten 3-inch drivers, four 3-inch dual-angled up-firing speakers and three 1.5-inch Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters. The subwoofer has a 12-inch carbon-fiber-reinforced aluminum driver and a 12-inch carbon passive radiator. Each surround speaker has two 1.5-inch AMT tweeters, two 3.5-inch drivers and one 3-inch up-firing driver that can be rotated (Nakamichi's PerfectHeight mechanism). Nakamichi rates this configuration at 3000 W peak power with INFERNO mode on, up to 125 dB and 19 Hz to 40 kHz.

The main unit has three HDMI 2.1 inputs, an HDMI 2.1 eARC output to the TV, optical and aux inputs and outputs, a USB port (firmware updates only) and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD. The box contains the main unit, the subwoofer with its removable grille, the two surrounds, the remote with batteries, an HDMI 2.1 cable, the speaker power cables, and the main unit power cable and power adapter.

The system is controlled with the backlit 43-key remote (Bluetooth and IR), the buttons on the main unit, the TV remote over HDMI-CEC, or the Nakamichi app for iOS and Android. Settings appear in an on-screen display on the TV. Sound modes include Movie, Music, Game, News, Sports and DSP Off presets and a Night Mode, and Adaptive Height Dispersion (AHD) has four height modes: Ultra, Wide, Focal and Off.

What the specs mean

• 11.1.6 speaker setup: eleven main channels, one subwoofer channel and six height channels. The six height channels come from real up-firing drivers: four in the main unit and one in each surround speaker.
• Wireless subwoofer and surrounds: the subwoofer and surround speakers connect to the main unit without audio cables, but each one still needs mains power.
• INFERNO mode: a DSP mode for DRAGON systems with 12-inch subwoofers that Nakamichi says adds headroom and impact; the peak power figure assumes it is on.
• Room calibration: an Easy Sound Setup with small, medium and large room presets, or manual distances from each speaker to the listening position, plus per-channel volume levels set with pink noise.
• HDMI eARC: the enhanced Audio Return Channel sends the TV's sound to the main unit over one HDMI cable, including lossless formats such as Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos.
• Audio formats: Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby MAT, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, DTS:X (upmixed to DTS:X Pro), DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS Digital Surround and multichannel PCM. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmix content with fewer channels to all the speakers.
• HDMI passthrough: the three HDMI 2.1 inputs pass video to the TV at up to 4K120 or 8K60, with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR, ALLM and HDCP 2.3.
• Subwoofer expansion: DRAGON pairs with up to four subwoofer cabinets, so this configuration can add up to three more 12-inch subwoofers, or a pair of dual-opposing 8-inch subwoofers.
